Governor Anne Waiguru has distanced herself from the ongoing political realignment in the Mt Kenya region. Anne Waiguru said tribal and divisive politics is dangerous.  Why Anne Waiguru is against the push for Mt. Kenya unity In an indirect attack on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Waiguru warned that the divisive politics being advanced by some leaders in the region should be rejected.  The second-term governor warned that tribal politics is very dangerous and might make the region fall behind in terms of development. “In 2007, we were in the same situation as we are now, and as a leader from Mt Kenya, I cannot allow our people to be misled into separating themselves from the rest of Kenyans. That is why we are emphasising that hatutaki siasa za ukabila. We want a unified nation & to bring development to our people,” Waiguru said. Waiguru asked Mt. Kenya residents to shun tribal politics and instead rally behind President William Ruto’s government, arguing that the region has benefited a lot from the Kenya Kwanza administration. “We want to be considered Kenyans, not Kikuyus. Kikuyus are all over the country working in different jobs. That is why tribal rhetoric and politics are very dangerous. We want a unified nation because we know how to align ourselves in government, and even now, we are in government and still bringing development to our people,” she stated. Why Rigathi Gachagua is pushing for Mt Kenya unity Waiguru’s sentiments come a few days after Gachagua claimed there are individuals plotting against the Mt. Kenya region. During a thanksgiving ceremony at Mutonyora Comprehensive School in Njabini on Friday, May 31, the DP warned Mt. Kenya residents about a bleak future. The DP, who spoke in his native Kikuyu language, stated the individuals were sowing seeds of disunity among Mt. Kenya residents. Amid fallout claims in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, Gachagua accused a section of Rift Valley leaders of undermining his authority in the Mt. Kenya region. Gachagua warned Ruto’s close associates against interfering with the political affairs of the Mt. Kenya region.
