Michael Oyier laid to rest in private ceremony in Homabay

Michael Odhiambo Oyier has been laid to rest in a private ceremony Friday May 3.

Mourners gathered in Homabay, where they said their final prayers and allowed to view his body, before the close family retreated to lay him to rest.

A section of Nyanza leaders delivered eulogies noting the late anchors sterling performance in the media.

A tribute was delivered on behalf of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga by Hassan Joho.

Speaking on behalf of Odinga, Joho said "He said I tell the family pole sana, and that he recognized Michael as a Shujaa of the nation. Raila has sent prayers and to Jeff, who has been with him, that you know the doors are open to the family of the Oyier, for anything at any moment don't hesitate to reach out to him, He prays for the family and the soul of the late Michael to rest in peace"

Other leaders who addressed mourners were full of praise for the late Journalist, remarking on his ethical approach to work.

A requiem mass was held May 1 at the All Saints Cathedral. 

His widow Dinah Kituyi revealed he proposed via phone, an action she did not like. She quarreled him. She also revealed he was a loving and man who stole her heart.

Oyier died on Sunday, April 21, at a Nairobi hospital following what the family said was a stroke.

A fundraiser was held on Tuesday at All Saints Auditorium from 5-7 pm.

He had a successful career in journalism spanning over a decade despite having studied Psychology and Management at university.

He started at Capital FM before moving to KTN where he had an illustrious nine-year stay before quitting in 2012 to practice counselling, his first passion.

Oyier leaves behind two daughters.
