Children sue their mother  for throwing them out
Children officers at Kayunga District were taken aback when three children, aged between 11 and 13, opened a case against their mother. Children Sue Mother for Throwing Them Out After Remarrying in Their Late Father’s House  The youngsters accused their 43-year-old mother, Hadja Nabutono, of expelling them from their home in February after marrying another man. Appearing before District Probation Officer Collins Kafeero, they claimed that their mother sent them out of their family home to live with grandma. According to The Daily Monitor, their father, Sepiriano Omoding, died in 2017 at the age of 75, leaving behind his widow and eight children. Following the traditional healer's death, Nabutono inherited a 15-acre piece of land and a permanent family house. The children's grievances escalated when their mother brought a new man into their dad's home and insisted that they refer to him as their "father." According to the eldest child, 13, the relationship with their mother deteriorated when she accused them of disrespecting their new stepfather. In 2023, the eldest child completed Primary 7, while his siblings were in Primary 6 and Primary 4. However, in February, she forcibly sent them to their grandfather's home just as the school term began. "Nabutono chased away her children and is happily staying with her new husband in the home," village LC Chairperson Annet Awinjo confirmed.  The desperate children walked from their grandmother's house to present their grievances to the authorities. Along the way, a concerned man gave them KSh 1,700, which they used for transport. The children filed a case with the probation office and appealed for the removal of their stepfather from their father's home and to ensure their mother educates them. The 13-year-old expressed his dream of becoming a motor vehicle engineer, while his younger siblings aspire to join the police force. When contacted, Nabutono accused the children of being undisciplined and rebellious, claiming they had dropped out of school and posed a threat to her. Kafeero assured that he would collaborate with area leaders to ensure the children receive justice.
