Police are holding a 34-year-old man who allegedly hacked and killed his mother in a village in Wajir.
The man was saved by police from being lynched by a mob after he had attacked and killed his mother in a dispute.
The incident happened in the Alimaow location, police said.
The body of Abdia Omar Adan, 61 was found in a pool of blood after she had been killed by the said assailant.
She had injuries on the head and the neck both from the right-hand side.
A mob attacked the suspect fracturing his hand and injuring his head before police arrived to take him to hospital.
The motive of the murder is yet to be known.
Police said an investigation is ongoing and the suspect is under guard in hospital after the May 28 incident.
Such fatal attacks are on the rise in villages.
And a man died after an abandoned quarry collapsed on him in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
The incident happened in Riagicheru village in Ngucui location.
Police said one Josphat Muchiri Mbogo, 54 was trapped under the rubble where he died on Tuesday.
The quarry was not active and it was believed that the cliff fell over the victim who had sneaked into the abandoned quarry.
It is not clear what motivated him to go there, police said.
The body was not retrieved due to night darkness and lack of proper facilities. Officials visited the scene on Wednesday and retrieved the body and took it to a local mortuary.
Meanwhile, a man believed to be a street urchin slipped into the Nairobi River and drowned.
Witnesses said the man was walking on the banks of the river in the Globe Cinema area on Wednesday evening when he slipped into the water.
His body was stuck between two rocks as good Samaritans tried to save him in vain.
Police said he drowned moments later.
A group of divers ventured into the water and removed the body. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy, police said.
In Matete, Kakamega, the body of a man was found floating in Matur stream after drowning.
Police said the body of one Boniface Wekesa, 26 was later retrieved and that it had no visible physical injuries.
The body was moved to Webuye County Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy and preservation.
Cases of drowning have been on the rise amid calls for caution.
More than 300 people died out of floods that were reported due to heavy rains in the country.
More than 50 others are missing after the rains.
Thousands of people were displaced by the floods.
