President William Ruto has called on the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to support the country in combating climate-related disasters that pose risks to the country’s progress.
While presiding over the Recruit Pass Out at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School in Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto urged the country’s military leadership to mobilize and lead the country in the quest to plant 15 billion trees in a bid to mitigate effects of climate change.
“I take this opportunity to commend KDF for your exemplary contribution to national afforestation efforts. As you know this campaign is a cornerstone of our national strategy to combat climate change and enhance our resilience thereby promoting overall security, our people, their property and livelihoods,” said President Ruto.
The president lauded KDF for its response to assist those affected by recent floods that have ravaged various parts of the country.
The government is planning to relocate families who have been affected by floods with the president promising to enhance national disaster response.
The President William Ruto will later on Wednesday preside over Recruits Pass Out Parade at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Uasin Gishu County.
Wednesday’s pass out parade follows a six months training of new Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel including Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy.
This cohort made history as having the largest composition of service women.
“This underscores KDF’s and Government’s dedication to gender equity. In our midst graduating today are more than 1000 service women joining our illustrious military career,” stated the Head of State.
The soldiers have been further urged to defend Kenya from internal and external threats and carry out their responsibilities with professionalism and respect.
During the six months training routine, recruits undergo an intense training where they are subjected to rigorous evaluation, tests and assessments in various military disciplines as individuals and groups.
