Food donations ready for dispatch
The Orange Democratic Movement Party has flagged off a consignment of food and non-food items to assist people affected by floods.
Speaking at Chungwa House during the flagging off ceremony, ODM Deputy Party Leader Hassan Joho said the party will continue to support Kenyans affected by the floods in several parts of the country.
“We are here to demonstrate that we care for Kenyans. We postponed our party elections when we realized Kenyans suffered from the flooding. It would have been heartless to continue the exercise under those devastating circumstances,” said Joho.
Wycliffe Oparanya, also ODM Deputy Party Leader, said the donations will be distributed to all the affected regions without discrimination.
“These donations are for all Kenyans irrespective of their political affiliation. We shall be in Mai Mahiu in Nakuru County, Mavoko in Machakos County, Budalangi and Teso in Busia County, Nyando in Kisumu County, Mathare in Nairobi County among other areas,” he stated.
Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary-General, Dr. Ahmed Idris, who was also present, appealed for additional aid to assist the thousands of Kenyans affected by the floods.
The flood crisis has affected a total of 411,825 people  while 58,009 households have been displaced in Nairobi.
Narok and Tana River counties are still experiencing flooding due to heavy rains in the Central region catchment area.
The government has so far set up 167 camps across 22 counties to host displaced families.
