Okwemba’s Regimen To Ailing AFC Leopards

Okwemba’s Regimen To Ailing AFC Leopards has advised the team to have proper early planning as well as have a strong start to the league if they intend to win the championship next season.

Ingwe’s title drought has stretched to more than two decades despite a promise of challenging for the gong at the beginning of every term and for Okwemba, change in tactics should be the cornerstone in challenging for the title.

“Leopards have had a lot of challenges because for a team to be able to compete we must first of all have stability, a strong start to the season and also a good plan if we want to win the league title.

A good start will always be helpful to any team,” said the soft-spoken Okwemba.

Okwemba also emphasised the need for the club to have continuity in its playing unit, if they are to integrate and perform well.

“…if you lose a lot of players it affects the team immensely regardless of how you deal with it.

Look at Gor Mahia. They are never losing players season in season out like we do.”

He went on: “It’s only a matter of tweaking a bit, bolstering a few players to strengthen the team for success and not doing it like you are overhauling it. This is why Gor Mahia are winning the league frequently unlike us (AFC Leopards).”

Leopards are placed six on 44 points, 19 behind leaders Gor Mahia with five matches to go.

The big cats are in the FKF Cup semi-final against Kenya Police FC, set for May 24 and will be hoping to knock them out and match on to the final against the winner between KCB and Kariobangi Sharks.

This is their only hope for silverware this term and a perfect avenue to return to the continental football (CAF Confederations Cup) for the first time since 2018.
