In January 2024, Joseph Njoroge Maina, aka Josey Arts, was commissioned to make a painting of the now-deceased Chief of the Defence Forces. General Francis Ogolla: Nairobi Man Who Made CDF's Painting Heartbroken as He's Laid to Rest The commission came from his longtime friend, Pastor Elijah Wachira of Bethany Ministries Nanyuki, who had been Josey's loyal client and admirer of his artwork since around 2019. For the artist, it was not only his first job of the year but also an honour to create the art of such a high-profile individual. . Josey told TUKO.co.ke that he started the painting on January 3 and completed it in 65 hours, after which he handed it to the client in mid-February. "He wanted to express his gratitude to General Ogolla for his unwavering support over the years, and we both believed a portrait painting would be the most heartfelt gift," the artist said. Josey disclosed that although he never met General Ogolla in person, creating the artwork formed a deep connection. He added that the general was deeply moved when Pastor Elijah presented the painting and insisted it be prominently displayed in his office. That explains why Josey broke down and cried when he learned that the man whose painting started the year for him had died. "It came as a shock to me. I couldn't believe the news when I saw it, and I even had to confirm with Pastor Elijah, who shared my disbelief," he added. Josey expressed immense gratitude that the fallen military man cherished the artwork, describing him as a hero and a legend.
