‘Zakayo’ musician Christina Shusho has finally opened up on why she tied the knot at such a young age.

The Tanzanian singer with a large Kenyan fanbase revealed her mother’s concerns about her striking beauty, which prompted her to hastily enter into marriage.

At the time, she had just completed her high school education.

“I got married at 19 years old, quite young. After completing my form four, my mother saw me, this beautiful girl at home. I was exceptionally beautiful, and my mother was afraid that I might be led astray and bring shame upon the family,” she said recently in a forum in Tanzania.

Shusho reflected on her past beauty, acknowledging that she was even more stunning back then than she is now.

“Now, I’m a bit older, don’t tell me I’m beautiful; I was incredibly beautiful. So, when this man approached my mother expressing interest in me, she simply agreed out of fear. I was indeed very beautiful.”

Her revelation comes at a time when she has been facing some criticism over her disclosure that she and her hubby John were no longer together.

In a stunning announcement made in early April 2024, the mom of 3 said that she had approached her long-time husband for a separation.

Her reason? The two had distinct callings.

“Let me speak from the bottom of my heart… I have never been fake, and I don’t lie. The truth is, it’s just an assignment. There is nothing different other than that. The assignment God has given me this season cannot allow me to stay where I was. I had to leave to fulfill the assignment,” she said while speaking to New Jerusalem Church TV.

Shusho further stressed that their separation was amicable. Regarding the process leading to their separation, the artist explained that she respectfully approached her husband and expressed her desire for him to “release her” as she had a journey to embark on.
