Governor Sakaja Johnson Monday convened a meeting with Nairobi City County leadership at City Hall, addressing the devastating impact of the ongoing heavy rains on various areas.
The leadership among other matters discussed urgent infrastructural and humanitarian support needed to mitigate the current floods wreaking havoc due to relentless downpours.
At the forefront of the meeting’s agenda was the dire need to provide assistance to affected communities, with a focus on addressing both infrastructural damage and the pressing humanitarian crisis unfolding.
Additionally, the plight of public schools impacted in the city by the rains was also earnestly deliberated upon.
Despite the challenges, the Nairobi County Government noted that it is steadfast in its commitment to collaborating with the National Government, National Police Service, and the Red Cross to provide essential assistance to those most affected by the calamity.
Efforts are underway to identify and support the households hardest hit by the floods, with a focus on mobilizing relief items to alleviate their suffering.
In attendance were Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Members of Parliament such as TJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), Beatrice Elachi ( Dagoretti North), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), George Aladwa (Makadara), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) and Julius Mawathe (Embakasi South).
The County Assembly leadership was also present, reflecting the collaborative effort to address this crisis.
