Nairobi Woman Accuses Pastor of Conning Her KSh 150k to Secure Grandchild Job Abroad: “I Took Loan”

An elderly woman is among the victims of alleged fraud involving the Jesus Culture Ministry preacher James Wanjohi. Pastor James Wanjohi of Jesus Culture Ministry in action previously in church.  She says she acquired a loan to pay for her orphaned grandchild’s job processing.  The preacher founded Worthstart Africa Agency, a firm helping Kenyans get job opportunities overseas. How Nairobi woman lost KSh 150k to preacher’s company Anyone seeking help with the agency would part with between KSh 100,000 and KSh 150,000 as requisite fees. The aggrieved woman revealed to Citizen TV that she paid KSh 140,000 at first and later topped KSh 10,000, all to help her kin get employment in Canada. “I took a loan from my women’s group. I paid for the fees but nothing is yet to come out. I paid KSh 140,000 and added KSh 10,000. They promised to call me later,” she recounted. She was left to service the loan despite the lack of value in it. The woman called on the state investigators to help settle the nasty puzzle. “It is so bad for an old woman like me to be left to pay the loan, yet I have other needs. They should return the money,” she lamented. Video; courtesy Meanwhile, the detectives are still hunting down the cleric who has been missing since the scandal came to the limelight. Police raided the recruitment agency’s offices in Nairobi and carted away items, including computers and chairs. Wanjohi is accused of having defrauded his victims, some of whom are congregants in his church, over Ksh 600 million.
