The incident happened in area near where the chopper carrying late General Francis Ogolla and other soldiers crashed. Ogolla had gone to Elgeyo Marakwet to visit troops deployed in the region under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, prior to his death on April 18. According to a report done by Citizen TV, the banditry occurred while Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers were still on site, gathering information about the recent helicopter crash. The bandits tried to escape with unknown number of cattle as police watched. Police reports indicate that the bandits participated in a 30-minute gunfight in the village, causing alarm among residents. Following the confrontation, the armed bandits fled into the dense vegetation, prompting law enforcement to initiate a search operation. As of now, it remains unclear if there were any casualties during the raid on Friday.
