Bobrisky Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail Without Fine Over Money Laundering

Popular social media personality and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, was on Friday morning, April 12, 2024, sentenced to six months imprisonment. Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky finally gets sentenced to six months in jail by Justice Awogboro, without the option of fine. Justice Abimbola Awogboro was the presiding judge who sentenced Bobrisky to six months imprisonment with no option of fine for violating and abusing the naira notes. A Nigerian blog, Legit.ng, had reported the arrest of Bobrisky by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bobrisky was said to have been invited to the police station over a video of him spraying and flaunting naira notes at the premiere of the movie Ajakaju by Eniola Ajao, a Nollywood actress and producer, at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024. After his arrest, Bobrisky was charged in court by the EFCC for crimes bordering on six counts, including abuse of the naira notes and money laundering. Bobrisky put in cuffs and taken away Clips and images of the controversial social media personality being put in handcuffs and taken away after his sentence was read in court have gone viral online. Many have slammed the imprisonment of Bobrisky as an injustice, while others have hailed it as a proper deterrence for the growing menace of homosexuality in society.  Vanguard reported that the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) stated that Bobrisky would be housed in the male section of its facility. Bobrisky’s conviction sparked debate on social media, with some questioning the severity of the sentence for his offense.
