Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has said the side enjoys sufficient depth to get the assignment done this season.
In an interview on Thursday, Matano dismissed fears that the unexpected departure of adventurous left-back Levin ‘Lefty’ Odhiambo to rivals Gor Mahia would jeopardise the Brewers’ title charge.
“He hasn’t been utilised much in our games. The last time he featured for us was when we faced Gor Mahia in the preceding season. He’s gone, and the people left behind have what it takes to get things accomplished,” Matano said.
“His noncommittal body language suggested he wasn’t quite comfortable at the club and, as such, we had to loosen our grip on him.”
The seasoned gaffer further trashed claims they are under the pump to identify a player who can perfectly step into Odhiambo’s shoes, insisting there is no void left in the club.
Experienced fullback Boniface ‘Kajole’ Onyango who was acquired from Kariobangi Sharks a couple of seasons ago, has cemented a starting role in Odhiambo’s absence.
“We’ll make improvements where we see gaps, but we won’t dive into this while the league is still in play. Before making a final choice, we’ll evaluate our performance throughout the season,” he continued.
Tusker which is currently second on the log with 43 points, eight adrift of leaders Gor Mahia will face Talanta in their next league encounter at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
