At least 1,189 people have died in road accidents from the beginning of the year 20224. An accident involving an Eldoret Express bus and a fuel tanker sparked outrage among Kenyans. Road Accident Deaths in 2024 According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, the number is higher by 60 deaths compared to the same period in 2023. The NTSA data released on Monday, April 1, showed that 7,189 people in the country were involved in road traffic accidents, as reported by the Daily Nation. This is 1,908 more than the number of accidents within the same period in 2023. “Since January 1, at least 7,189 Kenyans have been involved in road accidents. This marks an increase of 1,908 compared to the year 2023. At least 3,316 were seriously injured, and 2,693 sustained minor injuries,” the authority stated. Road accident deaths in the first 4 months of 2023? TUKO.co.ke, citing the NTSA 2023 data, established that at least 1,129 people died from road crashes. Serious injuries stood at 2,435, and at least 1,726 suffered minor injuries. In 2024, at least 436 pedestrians died in road accidents between January 1 and April 1. This was 62 more compared to pedestrian fatalities in 2023. Motorcycle accident deaths in Kenya in 2024 In 2023, over 374 deaths were recorded. This means pedestrians led to fatalities. Motorcycle accidents recorded the second most deaths from January 1, 2024, with 276 deaths. This is, however, a decrease from 311 motorcycle accident deaths within the same period in 2023. Starting January 1, 2024, over 255 passengers died in road accidents, compared to 211 deaths within the same period in 2023.
