A Kenyan woman has shared the earnings skilled and unskilled workers make when they move to Canada. A woman working as a cleaner. The video shared on TikTok by @kwendamajuupodcast (moving abroad podcast) was addressing a question that had been asked by a listener. “So someone asked, will you honestly make more money than in Kenya skilled or unskilled? Whats your answer?” asked the podcast host. How much workers earn in Canada In response, the guest on the podcast noted that the pay grade in Canada is higher for both skilled and unskilled workers. “The short answer is yes. The pay grades in Canada are much higher, given that it is a developed country. Take the so-called unskilled jobs like cleaning; in Canada, you can find cleaning jobs for around 18 Canadian dollars an hour, which comes to around KSh 1600 an hour. Which in an 8-hour day, that’s around KSh 13,000, which is pretty high for a cleaning job,” said the guest on the @kwendamajuupodcast. The guest said that for skilled jobs like a doctor, the salaries are much higher in Canada than in Kenya. However, she warned that although the pay is high, the cost of living is also higher in Canada than in Kenya. “But then again, the cost of living is also high. What you are paying for rent, what you pay for groceries, what you pay on a day to day basis is much higher,” she said. How netizens reacted to the said salaries The video garnered various reactions from Kenyans on TikTok, who shared their opinions on income made abroad. bespoke898 said: “Unless you’re very good at managing your finances. and keep spending to a bare minimum you might not have anything at the end of the day.” Mr Marks said: “What about the cost of living utasweat my friend .” Amondipendent asked: “Does it still translate to a better life quality if cost of living is factored?
