WRC Safari Rally: William Ruto’s Govt to Cede Management of Global Event to Private Players

Government now wants the private sector to play a bigger role in hosting the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally. President William Ruto engages WRC Safari Rally drivers.  President William Ruto announced plans to cede the management of the iconic global sporting event to the private players. How private sector will support Safari Rally? Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 WRC Safari Rally at Hell’s Gate in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Sunday, March 31, Ruto noted that the state will continue to support the event.  “We invite the private sector to play a greater role in the management of the WRC Safari Rally and explore untapped opportunities. This will not only ensure that the event is cost-effective but also enhance the overall experience, making it truly magical,” said Ruto. Ruto noted that the WRC Safari Rally presents huge business opportunities, which remain untapped. How many people watch Safari Rally? The head of state noted that over 85 million people in 170 countries globally watched the Easter edition. The number of international television channels covering the event increased to over 50. “This year, we have made the event more efficient, cost-effective and better. Next year, we intend to double our efforts,” he said.  Ruto applauded Kalle Rovanpera of Toyota Gazoo Racing for emerging victorious in the competitive race. What are WRC Safari Rally opportunities? According to Hyundai, WRC cars adhere to the specifications established by the FIA, the international motorsports governing body. Rally Connection notes that rally cars are constructed with significantly heightened safety standards compared to regular road vehicles. The chassis is outfitted with a minimal outer shell, meticulously reinforced and strengthened to withstand the demanding conditions of the WRC.
