Walimpiga risasi, wachukue shamba! The widow narrates how she regained the land after the death of the entire generation.

A KDF soldier took Mama Mary Muthoka land forcefully, which led to the deaths of an entire generation in Malindi after the incident.

Born and raised in Machakos, Mary Muthoka got married in a colourful wedding in Jilore, Malindi, in the late 1990s. Her late husband was one of the best-known figures in the area.

The late husband bought land bordering the famous KDF soldier. The military man took his entire family to the security forces. At his home, the soldier had six boys who were also recruited to the defence forces and three girls who were recruited to the police service.

“Mume wangu alinunua shamba ambayo ilileta matatizo, which led to his death. Waliomuua ni Watoto wa mwanjeshi amabo walikua wanapigania. I wonder why. The land was on sale, and they knew. They did not buy it until my husband bought it.

"That was when the chaos began. The land is fertile and good for agriculture. Hatukuwahi lima kwa hiyo shamba because of the neighbours.

Mary Muthoka’s late husband took out a loan and bought over 10 acres of land. However, due to power and influence in the military and the security personnel, the uniformed man began a battle to acquire the same land.

That tug of war led to the death of Mary Muthoka’s husband, who was shot dead in his home. The uniformed man took over the fertile acres and kicked out the widow.

“I told my husband to let it go. But because he had taken a loan, he said he would fight for it. He shot dead, and eventually they took the land,“ she said.

The widow moved from one office to the other in a bid to reclaim her land in vain. She resorted to traditional means. A friend gave her Kiwanga doctor's number on +254769404965, called, and she was assisted.

“Nilitembea ofisi moja had ingine, from assistant chief office to district commissioner, days to land office among other offices in vain. A friend told me I should stop going to government offices because the man is in the government and use traditional means.

"After a couple of years, the remaining child and her sisters agreed to give back my land while their family was almost extinct,” she said.

She was told to choose what she wanted to happen to the family; however, due to anger and the loss of her husband, she said it would be better if the entire generation of KDF soldiers was wiped off together with the father.

But before that, she wanted all of them to be retrenched, and then the rest followed. Kiwanga doctors told her to visit them for counselling, and if that was the case,.

After visiting them, 10 years down the line, only one child and his married sisters are left. The child remaining is said to have been sired by a bishop in the area and was not a biological child of the KDF man.
