Peris Mugera, a young mother from Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County, was reported missing one week ago after leaving home for work. The heartbreaking development is that the missing woman has been discovered dead. A report filed by Rukanga Police Post today at 8 am today indicated that members of the public found her body along Makutano Sagana Highway. Police officers, led by OCS Kiamaciri police station, DCI officers, and CSI officials from Kerugoya processed the scene. "The deceased has some bruises on the forehead. She was dressed in black tight leather trousers and red canvas shoes," read part of the report. The scene was documented, and the elimination fingerprints were taken for the identification process. As of the time of filing this report, the body had been taken to Kerugoya mortuary awaiting post-mortem. "The discovery hurts a lot, I don't even have the right words to describe it," a relative told TUKO.co.ke, shortly after identifying the body. So far, there are no leads to the cause of death nor suspect behind the deceased mother. According to a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) report, her phone signal was last recorded in Kathoge, Kirinyaga County, at 2 am. On one hand, the search for the missing woman has come to an end, but on the other, a family is grappling with questions about what happened to Peris. In her last Facebook post on February 25, at 3.04 pm, she complained that her body needed a treat. "My body aches, yaani nyama za mwili zinauma. Nani ako na dawa?" read part of the post. Peris disappeared on Thursday, February 29, after leaving home between 1 pm and 2 pm. She was a former employee of the late Tharaka-Nithi 2022 gubernatorial candidate Gitari Mbiuki, and has two children aged six and 15. Relatives and friends disclosed that the deceased woman was not in distress and had no known enemies.
