Private Security Guards Set for Mandatory Guard Force Numbers Registration, KSh 30k Monthly Salary

 

The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has announced a mass registration event scheduled to take place at Uhuru Park, Nairobi County, on March 30, 2024. PSRA CEO Fazul Mohamed and a private security guard. PSRA has announced a mass registration of security guards.  The event aims to register and issue guard force numbers to approximately 30,000 private security officers (security guards) in Nairobi. Is registration as a private security guard mandatory? The initiative, mandated by Sections 21 and 28 of the Private Security Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016, requires all individuals engaged in providing or offering private security services in Kenya to undergo security vetting and registration by the PSRA. Fazul Mohamed, the CEO and director general of the Private Security Regulatory Authority, underscored the significance of this mass registration event in a public notice. "The training, registration, and licensing of private security officers are not only mandatory statutory requirements but also pivotal in addressing key professional development areas within the private security industry," said Mohamed. What is the purpose of guard force numbers? The guard force number serves as the sole proof of registration and licensing by the PSRA, ensuring compliance with the provisions of the law. What is the salary of private security guards? The PSRA and private security firms in Kenya have been engaged in a legal tussle over the salaries of private security guards. However, in a public notice of the upcoming massive registration, PSRA indicated that registered private security guards with guard force numbers will earn KSh 30,000. monthly salary. The PRSA established a minimum wage of KSh 18,994.08 for security guards and other allowances, bringing the gross pay to KSh 30,000.
