Paul Kagame Endorses Raila Odinga for African Union Commission to Job: "We'll Support Him"
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame is the latest leader to endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission chairperson's position. Why is Paul Kagame supporting Raila for the AU job According to Kagame, the ODM leader is not a stranger to the AU, having worked as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development. "I respect Raila Odinga. I know his struggles. He did a good job (as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development). We give him our support and wish him well not only now but when he is there (as the chair) for Africa to succeed," Kagame said. An endorsement from Kagame adds impetus to Raila's candidacy and bolsters East Africa's chance to clinch the continent's top seat. The endorsement came a few days after the former prime minister met with Kagame, where he sought his support for the AU seat. After a joint meeting with President William Ruto, the opposition leader has already gotten the support of Uganda's Yoweri Museveni.
