Nairobi Barber Using Hammer, Knife on Clients Says He Charges KSh 8k Per Haircut: "I Do for Content"

Nairobi barber, Martin Safari, has astounded many with his unorthodox methods of work. Martin Safari, a barber using knives and hammers on his clients, revealed he charges between KSh 5,000 and KSh 8,000 per haircut.  Whilst other hair groomers use the known hair clippers and their accessories, Safari uses hammers, knives, chisels and even shovels, among other objects common with carpenters and farmers. How much does it cost to be shaved with a knife and hammer?  He revealed to TRT Afrika that for a haircut, a client would cough between $45 (KSh 5,000) and $60 (KSh 8,000). Among the challenges in his occupation, he explained, was the scepticism on the side of his clients some of whom develop cold feet due to his tools of trade known to be crude weapons. "The major challenge I face is getting people to trust me due to the crazy tools I use. I'm still new in Nairobi and people don't know me yet. It is therefore difficult convince a person," he said. But with such challenges, Safari, a former student at Kigali University, has achieved a handful of feats, including being named the best content creator in 2023 in the Barber Grammy Awards and also getting the chance to adjudicate at a barber's competition in Yaounde, Cameroon. Kiambu barber using an axe on clients Another barber using unorthodox means to serve clients left many shocked after inventing an axe as a shaving tool. Julius Mwangi was upbeat as customers flocked to his barbershop in Thindigua, Kiambu. When his business was first made public, many expressed their fears, swearing never to set foot at Mwangi's place labelled Clippers Kings Barbershop. However, after weeks, potential customers started showing up out of curiosity, later coming back to have a clean shave at Mwangi's shop Initially, he had admitted that the axe would attract people to his shop, but not everyone was enthusiastic about being shaved with the tool. Mwangi, who has been a barber since 2014, said he started shaving with an axe in July 2021. The father of one stated that he took up the axe to attract new clients, admitting that it worked. He divulged that shaving with an axe has some advantages over the shaving machine. The barber also revealed that the axe is better suited for shaving clients with full beards.
