Mixed Reactions as Boda Boda Rider Hits Land Cruiser, Gives Owner KSh 345 to Repair It: "All He Had"
A boda boda rider had a long day at the hands of a high-end car owner after a minor accident. The driver insisted on the boda boda operator footing all the repair expenses at a mechanic's shop. The rider hit a Land Cruiser on Jinja Road on Tuesday, March 19, causing a dent in it. He was ferrying sacks of foodstuff when he lost control in the midst of a traffic snarlup.. Aware of his wrongdoing, he remained at the scene as the car owner alighted to assess the damage. According to Daily Monitor, the rider owned up and offered to help the Land Cruiser owner with some cash for repair, Whilst the car makeover would cost a fortune, the man gave out 10,000 UGx (equivalent to KSh 345). But the car owner would have none of it, insisting that the motorcycle rider follows him to a mechanic and foots all the costs of repair. Reactions to boda boda-Land Cruiser accident With the events, social media users were divided in opinion. While a section argued the car owner would have been lenient, others held he was within his rights to demand accountability from the rider. Norah Acam said: "By the time that boda boda man pulled the ka 10 K, it means that he was really sorry for what happened. That would have been enough for the driver to let him go." KingDavid Senior; "The moment that guy pulled out 10k, It was enough reason to forgive him." Nuru Tindi Seje; "It's difficult to be fair here. Whereas the Bodaman could be deserving of our unhelpful sympathy, if you've driven there you may know how they tend to breach all the traffic rules. The driver too perhaps is an employee(Looks like a company car)who will be held accountable for the damage to the car. Let's respect traffic rules!" Aisha Ahmed; "It's called taking responsibility for your actions." Fred Kaali; "Boda guys are so reckless on the roads however, if that boda guy had the will to pay that little it means he has conceded his fault, I pray the driver forgives him." The rivalry between boda boda riders and car owners has always been at play in light of an accident. Back in Kenya, in January this year, a lady motorist in Kitengela town was almost brutalised by riders who were protesting an accident that left one of them injured. The woman was accused of hitting the victim on the evening of Thursday, January 18, while on board a black Nissan Juke. How Kitengela boda boda riders attempted to lynch lady motorist In amateur videos published online, a rowdy group of the riders strived to eject the woman out of the vehicle but were blocked by the police. They had wanted to lynch her in response to the accident. Overpowered by the officers, they resorted to hurling stones at the car that they towed to a nearby ditch damaging it in the process. The officers tried to disperse the growing crowd that had got out of hand. The lady was later whisked out of the scene as the riders watched in anger.
