Missing KMU campus student found dead in Meru
The decomposed body of a 23-year-old university student who had been reported missing has been found in a house in Mathare shopping centre, Imenti North, Meru County.
The deceased was identified as Samuel Gathongo a student at the Kenya Methodist University.
He had been missing since February 29.
His friends reported he was missing as his body was discovered in his house on March 4, police said.
A landlady of a house where the deceased lived said she was removing clothes from a clothesline when she noticed flies coming from the house.
The house had remained locked for some time, she said.
She became curious and peeped through the window when saw the body hanging with a rope tied around his neck in one of the roof rafters of the rented house.
The woman called the police who visited the scene and processed it. The officers later revealed that the body had no physical injuries.
The body was moved to the Meru General Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Police said no suicide note was found and they are investigating the cause of the death.
Meanwhile, a man aged 80 was killed in a fire incident in a village in Kikuyu, Kiambu county.
Police said the incident happened in Nguriunditu village.
The body of Joseph Karuku was found in the house after the fire had been contained.
The man was living with disability, police said.
The cause of the Sunday fire is not yet established. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and probe.
In the same area, police said they are investigating the murder of a 38-year-old man in Ndiguini Village.
The body of Evans Macharia was found lying on the road near his home.
