Kisii Woman Chases Away Kenya Power Official Trying to Read Her Meter: "Nimesema Utoke!"
A Kenya Power official on routine duty found herself in danger after an angry Kisii woman confronted her after stepping into her compound. Images for illustration purposes only. The angry mother took matters into her own hands when the officer attempted to read her electricity meter. Woman chased away officer In a video by 7 News Global, the elderly woman vehemently chased away the utility worker while shouting "Tokaa!" (Swahili for "Get out!") in a heated confrontation. The incident occurred when the young woman approached the client's residence but was met with unexpected resistance. It was unclear why the woman was annoyed at the company that supplies her with power, but she kept questioning the officer's presence on her property. "Msifikirie Kenya Power ndio maisha yetu. Mimi sijaiba stima ya mtu," she shouted. Officer left woman's compound The official attempted to calm the situation and explain that she had no malice, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. The defiant client not only refused to listen to her explanations but also threatened to cause harm if she stayed put. “Toka hapa! Mimi sifanyi kazi yenu!” she retorted, wielding a farm fork while threatening to hack the official. After realising that the woman was not relenting, the officer requested to be allowed out of the compound. Reactions on social media The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with some users expressing solidarity with the woman and frustration over electricity billing practices. Fred Sagala: "We know we are facing hard economic times but please don’t take the law in your hands, you’ll be standing alone in a court of law." Achie Jay "Huyu anaenda kukatiwa stima kwa pole. Anacheza na Kenya Power. Lakini kuna hasira ingine huku Kisii." Dan Wuod Ruoth Oketch: "Sad and funny at the same time. Whose side do you take? For now, I stand with the mother! Till I learn otherwise." Kenya Power has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but the situation sheds light on the complexities officials face during operations.
