Kisii main prison to be relocated from town

Plans to relocate Kisii main GK Prison from the Town Centre have started earnestly.

The move by the government is aimed at paving the way for the expansion of the heavily congested town.

The correctional facility will be relocated to an alternative site outside Kisii Town.

“The Government will relocate the Kisii Prison from the Town Centre to an alternative site outside Kisii Town to allow proper urban planning to accommodate other strategic National and County Government projects suitable for location at the Town Centre” announced Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.

The CS on Monday morning together with the Kisii County Security Heads, visited the prison to assess the progress of the relocation process.

Meanwhile, Kenya will in collaboration with International Organization for Migration (IOM) host the first National Border Management Conference in Nairobi on 2 – 4 April 2024.

The conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to engage in enhancing Coordinated Border Management and support the implementation of Border Control and Operations Coordination Committee’s five-year strategic plan.

“The milestone event marks a significant advancement in our collective efforts to enhance coordinated Border Management and foster integration of agencies under the Border Control and Operations Coordination Committee (BCOCC)” said the Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry has already rolled out the revised Kenya Coordinated Border Management Program (KCBMP) to strengthen the security and efficiency of Kenya’s ports points of entry and exit.

The Programme is designed to provide a practical and hands-on approach to bolster the abilities of front-line officers, and address the evolving challenges of border security.
