The police have their work cut out after a post-mortem examination revealed what killed 19-year-old Joan Nzomo. Government pathologist Peter Ndegwa during a past media briefing. The college student died after falling from the 10th floor of an apartment building in Thome Estate in Nairobi's Kasarani area. Preliminary investigations showed Joan was only wearing a red t-shirt when she fell off the 10th floor of the White House apartments. The police have been trying to establish whether she was pushed out of the room, was running away or took her own life. When detectives arrived at the scene, they discovered that she spent the night in room J06, which served as a short-stay accommodation but was locked. Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at the scene contacted the owner, who opened the room only to find an unconscious man, identified as Lawrence Gitonga, lying on the floor with stab wounds. The man had bled profusely due to the eight stab wounds on the chest and back, which he told police were inflicted on him by the girl. He was rushed to Uhai Neema Hospital. What killed Joan Nzomo The autopsy report confirmed that she died as a result of multiple injuries due to blunt force trauma caused by the fall. Government pathologist Peter Ndegwa explained that it was still too early to ascertain whether the deceased was pushed from the 10th fall or it was a case of murder or self-harm, adding that it was a matter left to detectives. Ndegwa said the teenager did not have any stab wounds, maintaining she only had injuries consistent with a fall. "Injuries due to blunt-force trauma consistent with a fall from height, that is my conclusion. No stab wounds, all of them are from a blunt object consistent with a fall from height. The issue now is to establish the manner of death, whether accidental, self harm or even murder," he said.
