Govt taking steps to address cost of living, Kenya Kwanza leaders say
Kenya Kwanza leaders have assured Kenyans of government’s interventions to address cost of living and reduce food imports.
National Assembly Committee on Budget Chair Ndindi Nyoro said that they have availed more resources in the budget to provide affordable farm inputs such as seeds and fertilizer in order to increase food production and reduce food imports.
He said the Kenya spends Ksh 100 billion annually to import edible oils but government has now availed inputs such as sunflower and canola seeds to reduce imports.
The Kiharu legislator also said that the government was keen to end monopoly in energy sector to enhance efficiency and boost access to electricity among Kenyans.
He noted that government was working to liberalize the sale of meters in the market by having certified shops selling the products to ensure more Kenyans access to electricity on time.
The lawmakers said that plans to equip youth and cultural center in Wundayi, Taita Taveta County to empower youth through digital jobs, is on course.
Wundayi MP Dawson Mwashako launched the Ksh 50 million bursary kitty and the constituency strategic plan.
Mwashako said that center will serve to protect unique culture of the local communities and provide jobs for the youth in the region.
