Gospel singer Janet Otieno opens up about her battle with Vitiligo
Kenyan Gospel musician Janet Otienohs opened up on her silent battle with Vitiligo.
Vitiligo is a disease that causes loss of skin color in patches.
During a phone interview on Radio 47's 'Maskani 47' show, the singer candidly revealed how she discovered she was suffering from Vitiligo just moments before gracing the stage for a performance.
She first noticed a peculiar spot on her skin while getting her makeup done backstage.
Janet recounted seeing a white patch on her face, She tried to rub it off but to no avail, that's when she realized it was Vitiligo
Nonetheless, Otieno still decided to go through with her scheduled performance.
"I had to perform and kill the show."
The gospel singer further added that things got worse the following morning and started spreading all over and in just two weeks it had spread over her body.
"But the next day, things got worse. Things got worse in the morning, and I cannot forget that day. I have never forgotten about that moment because it was the beginning of a lot of stress. I was even depressed because, in just two weeks, it had spread all over my body." Janet said.
The Nachukua Kwako hitmaker further explained that she refrained from releasing new music and avoided sharing photos on social media during the nerve-wracking period.
The middle-aged beauty also disclosed that she sought medical attention outside the country once she realized the severity of her condition and she embarked on the journey to find effective treatment it took her three years to completely get rid of her Vitiligo.
"It took about three to five years to completely get rid of Vitiligo," Otieno shared.
