DJ Joe Mfalme arraigned in court days after the death of a police officer

Joseph Mwenda Munoru popularly known as DJ Joe Mfalme alongside his bouncer, driver and photographer were today arraigned at Kibera Law court.

The police will be seeking time to have the suspects detained pending further probe into the matter.

The DCI has served the lawyers representing the respondents and they have been given a 30-minute break to peruse the documents to argue on the application.

The three; Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Rotich Cherono, and Agnes Kerubo Mugo, were arrested on Sunday to be questioned  in the murder of the senior cop Felix Kelian Kentos.

According to the police, the assault allegedly  happened after the officer was involved in a non-injury traffic accident at around 4 am within Kikuyu market.

The officer died on Friday while receiving treatment at the Nairobi West Hospital.

Also being questioned are three police officers who attended the accident where the alleged assault occurred, police said.

The officers are accused of negligence following the altercation on March 16.

An autopsy showed that Kelian died from pancreatic complications. He also had injuries on his private parts, the autopsy showed.

In his statement released on March 24, 2024, DJ Joe Mfalme relayed his condolences to the bereaved family, friends and all those impacted by the unfortunate incident that led to the officer's death.

“This is a public statement solely aimed at addressing the recent developments surrounding the regrettable incident that has come to the attention of the general public,” the statement read in part.

"DJ Joe Mfalme and his team are fully committed to participating in the investigative procedure and will continue to extend their cooperation as may be required," it added.

On March 16, DJ Mfalme and his team were headed home in Kikuyu when they were involved in a minor non-injury accident.

Police said his car was scratched in the accident.

This led to an altercation with Kelian before police were called to the scene.

The officers took Kelian to the station where he started to complain of abdominal pain.

He also started urinating blood, witnesses said.

The officer was later taken to hospital where he had an operation but succumbed to his injuries on Friday, March 22, while receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital.
