Nyong'o announced the sudden demise of Kisumu, billionaire businessman and owner of Mayfair Holdings Ltd Amin Gilani. In a condolence letter released on Sunday, March 3, the governor noted that Gilani passed away in London on Saturday, March 2. "I have learned with deep shock about the death of one of Kisumu’s most astute businessmen, Amin Gilani of Mayfair Holdings," said governor Nyong'o. What is Amin Gilani's business profile? Nyong'o described Gilani as an astute businessman who lived to the success of Kisumu County's economic development through the investment and employment of hundreds of people. "Gilani’s sudden demise in the United Kingdom on March 2, has robbed this county of a great investment partner whose business enterprises employed hundreds of people and contributed greatly to Kisumu County’s investment profile, especially in the tourism and manufacturing sectors," he said. What other companies are owned by Gilani? Apart from Mayfair Holdings Ltd, the manufacturer of the Sunblest brand of bread, Gilan is said to have owned a business under the Gilani Family Entreprise. The family owns the Imperial Hotel Kisumu, and in April 2022, it signed a 7-year management agreement with Sarova Hotels & Resorts. The Gilani's also own Imperial Express, one of the top budget hotels in Kisumu, Western Kenya. Siaya businessman dies in shop In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Police launched an investigation into the death of a 61-year-old man who died while at his shop in Siaya County. Onyango Okinya reportedly collapsed and died at his stall, according to Siaya County police commander, Cleti Kimaiyo. Preliminary reports indicated that the businessman, Okinya, had been unwell for the past two months.
