Alice Wahome: Land CS Temporarily 'Detained' by Goons in KSh 1.3b Disputed Land in Gigiri

 

Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice has been involved in a stand-off with hundreds of youths guarding the KSh 1.3 billion disputed land in Gigiri. CS Alice Wahome asked police to take action against individuals who hired the goons.  On Tuesday, Match 5, Wahome visited the disputed land to assist the rightful owners in accessing the expansive parcel along the Lower Kabete Road following a court order. What Alice Wahome said about the incident  However, Wahome, the ministry officials and security officers immediately entered the land, and armed youths locked the only exit gate. The alleged owners, Ashok Kumar Rupshi and Hitten Kumar, arrived and found the gate locked. Wahome, accompanied by senior police officers, and armed police officers, was shocked at the turn of events, condemning the incident as unfortunate. “What we have witnessed is a barbaric act by someone who is using goons to illegally secure this land. We have been illegally detained, and those goons must be arrested," Wahome said. Police officers were forced to chase after a suspect who was believed to be the commander of ununiformed guards, forcing him to break the padlock after failing to produce the keys. The CS pointed an accusing finger at former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner Davis Nathan Chelogoi over the stalemate.  Chelogoi has also claimed the same parcel of land, and the case has been in court since 2015. Wahome directed security officers to ensure Ashok and Hitten access their land, and those behind the incident were arrested. “There has been an unnecessary delay. I am here as the Cabinet sectary for lands housing and physical planning to assist the owners access this and as directed by the court," the CS said.
