Agnes Kagure Meets Mike Sonko as She Makes Inroads to Winning Combination ahead of 2027

Barely two years after the 2022 General Election, political aspirants interested in different positions have begun making inroads into their strongholds. Agnes Kagure has expressed interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027 and has made inroads into potential support bases. Nairobi gubernatorial race 2027 shaping up One position that has attracted the interest of several aspirants is the Nairobi gubernatorial seat held by the incumbent Governor, Johnson Sakaja, of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Sakaja convincingly floored Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party's Polycarp Igathe. The faction presented Igathe after Orange Democratic leader Raila Odinga and former president and Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta negotiated and prevailed on Tim Wanyonyi, the current Westlands MP, to shelve his ambition. So far, Raila has publicly admitted that dropping Wanyonyi worked against the faction to the advantage of Kenya Kwanza, which successfully convinced Margaret Wanjiru to shelve her ambitions and support Sakaja's bid. Tim Wanyonyi, Agnes Kagure game plan From the start, Kagure, who resolved to contest on an independent ticket, indicated that her eyes were fixed on the Nairobi gubernatorial position. TUKO.co.ke has established that Kagure's meetings with politicians who have expressed interest in leading Nairobi have a strong resolve behind them—to become the first elected female Nairobi governor. About a week after meeting with Wanyonyi to discuss the predicaments their political parties subjected them to in 2022, Kagure met with former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko. Sonko, recently cleared of criminal charges by the court, had intended to vie as Mombasa Governor, but a court ruling saw him disqualified. Agnes Kagure meets Mike Sonko This prompted him to throw his support behind President William Ruto's faction, despite having shown dalliance with Uhuru and Raila earlier in the 2022 contest. "I am catching up with my good friend, Mjamo Mike Sonko. The ever-jovial second governor of Nairobi shared that it was while Manchester City played against Liverpool recently that he got a full recollection of the 2022 elections and how we differently went through frustrations. "He concluded that after the 1-1 draw from the match, he realised that competing and not winning isn't the end but rather a pause to strategise and win in a mightier way. He also expressed his admiration for the progress I'm making to empower women in finance and leadership and is committed to enhancing women's empowerment projects through his SRT foundation," Kagure posted on X. Several Kenyans had shared mixed reactions about the possibility of Kagure running on a joint ticket with Wanyonyi and her latest meeting with Sonko, who she said was determined to follow Ruto's counsel for candidates to consider running mates of a different gender as a way of fast-tracking gender balance in leadership. "He further promised to take up the call by the president and run a joint ticket with a strong and visionary woman leader in his next political quest, God-willing. Better days ahead, mazuri yaja (good things are on the way)," said Kagure, in a thin-veiled message reiterating her quest for Nairobi leadership.. Recently, Kagure argued that Nairobi was ready for its first elected female governor and offered herself for the position.
