Lawyer Danstan Omari has raised alarm over Kenya Water Towers Agency chairman Rashid Echesa’s deteriorating health while in police custody. Lawyer Danstan Omari gives an update on Rashid Echesa’s health. During a press briefing on Friday, March 29, Omari warned that Echesa’s situation was worsening by the day. Flanked by lawyer Cliff Ombeta and Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, Omari revealed that Echesa had recently undergone a major medical procedure. The lawyer explained that they sought official documents from various hospitals to secure his release, but all was in vain. “We looked for the documents, we contacted the first hospital where he was treated, Karen Hospital and found out the documents that he was operated on. A very serious operation that he underwent, and he showed us the type of stitches and wounds that he was carrying while in police custody. Then after that, we contacted his other doctor Professor Chungu who wrote a summary of the medical condition. The condition is fatal; the condition is acute pneumonia. So we wrote a letter in the morning that at no cost waziri should be released so that the family take him to the hospital or the police to the hospital,” he disclosed.  Who will be accountable for Echesa’s health Omari further observed that despite all the documents on his health situation, the police brought him to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning. However, the interview failed to happen as Echesa’s health quickly turned from bad to worse. “Our client’s medical condition was completely deteriorating, he was breathing heavily, he started sweating, and his interview could not proceed. Here is a man who is likely to die. He has been taken back to Muthaiga Police Station as the officers here, consult their bosses,” he added. The outspoken lawyer warned that in the event Echesa dies while in police custody, the officers who detained him would be held accountable. Echesa arrested over extortion Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Echesa had been arrested over allegations of extorting Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa. Omari, who said he was pursuing the matter, said Echesa was being held on suspicion of staging his kidnapping and extortion.  The lawyers were reading foul play in his arrest, claiming that there was a powerful face behind it.
