When Godfrey Charles faced financial challenges in Class Seven, he was forced to drop out of school. Godfrey Charles’s car has a top speed of 120km/hr. The Tanzanian national was heartbroken when his father died, leaving him an orphan at an early age because he looked up to him. His father’s death inspired him to build a sports car as he saw his struggles when he was sick. The 28-year-old was born in Kagera, although he resides in Dar es Salaam. “When my father was sick, we used to walk for long distances, which made him weak. We also struggled a lot. Eventualluy, he passed away unexpectedly. This inspired me to make something that would make me travel easier,” Charles said, as reported by Afrimax. Despite his setbacks, he had to work hard to make everything function. Although everyone in his immediate vicinity believed he was crazy, he finished building his sports automobile in one year and two months. He had to deal with obstacles, including scarce resources. The determined man succeeded because he was patient, hardworking, and passionate about what he did. The car cost $250 (KSh 33,000), money he got by selling scrap metal parts and working as a garage assistant. Features of the car The sports car has a top speed of KSh 120km/hr and a capacity of two people. It has a steering wheel, a gearstick, turn signal lights, a dashboard, headlights, front and rear wings, just like a Formula One car. It can move forward and reverse. The brilliant innovator cited inadequate resources and lack of support as his biggest challenges. “I have a big dream to do something else that is much higher than the car. I want to build a super-fast car that can go 480km/hr and a sports car that can zoom down the road like lightning,” he said. He also dreams of building a plane or a boat.
