The remains of two Kenyan students who died in Australia have been repatriated. Humphrey Ruto and Penuel Meli’s bodies arrived home from Australia. How did Kenyan students die in Australia? Humphrey Ruto and Penuel Meli lost their lives after a vehicle they were travelling in lost control, rammed into a tree, and burst into flames on a busy highway. According to reports, emergency services were called to the scene of the accident at about 2.10 am, after which they found the vehicle burning. The incident occurred at an intersection on Tonkin Highway near the Albany Highway exit in Perth. “Emergency services attended the scene, but sadly, the occupants of the vehicle are deceased,” a police spokesman said. A viral video shared online showed the vehicle being consumed by flames as first responders tried to rescue the victims, in vain. Humphrey was a student at Stotts College, while Penuel was studying at DNA Kingston Training Institute. On Wednesday, March 20, the bodies of the students landed at the Eldoret International Airport. Delights Funeral Directors dispatched a Mercedes Benz and Jaguar hearses to ferry the bodies. Images showed their relatives gathered at the airport to welcome back their sons. The mood was sombre as the students’ caskets were loaded onto the hearses. Their loved ones walked alongside the hearses as they drove out of the airport. The hearses were joined by an entourage of tens of vehicles, including a police escort. The bodies were taken to a mortuary before the burials in Nandi county. Kenyans mourned the two by saying: Benard Warutere: “Dignified send-off.” Nasumiyu Sally: “May their souls rest in peace. God have mercy on the family.” Muchiri John Giathi “Condolences to the families.”
