The president’s ensemble included an orange reflector jacket, a red helmet, and black gumboots, attire that symbolised the construction efforts to follow. However, engineer Ojung’a took issue with the president’s safety gear, specifically his helmet. According to Ojung’a, a red helmet is typically won by firefighters, making it the wrong choice for the event. “I wish those who gave our excellency that helmet could have understood that the color code belongs to firefighters,” Ojung’a wrote sharing a photo of Ruto dorning the safety gear. Different colours of helmets and what they mean According to United Engineering Supplies, safety helmets come in pre-defined colour codes based on the type and site of work. Yellow helmets are typically worn by operators of earth-moving equipment or labourers on construction sites. In contrast, blue helmets are designated for electricians, technical workers like carpenters, and other interim roles. Brown and green helmets are worn by welders or people in high-heat working areas and safety inspectors on-site. White helmets represent supervisors, architects, engineers, and managers, while red helmets, as Eng. Ojung’a noted are for firefighters and emergency trainees. Finally, grey helmets are worn by site visitors on the worksite, and pink helmets are used by female workers or as extra helmets in some companies.
