WhatsApp GB Users Face Shutdowns as Meta Asks Them to Download Official App

 

WhatsApp GB users are facing shutdowns as Meta, the parent company of the instant messaging app, is asking them to download the official version of the app due to security concerns. Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg.  WhatsApp GB is a modified version of the messaging app that offers additional features not found in the official app, such as customisation options and enhanced privacy settings.  However, Meta has raised concerns about the safety of using modified versions of their apps, citing potential security risks and violations of their terms of service.  Meta's move has prompted many WhatsApp GB users to switch back to the official app to avoid any potential disruptions in their messaging service. "You need the official WhatsApp to log in. Using another app other than the official WhatsApp has privacy and security risks," the company stated. It asked WhatsApp GB users to download the official app from the app store. Why WhatsApp GB users are lamenting Joan Jepng'etich was one of the users of WhatsApp GB who was forced to switch to the official app. She revealed that she downloaded the regular app after she received a message that she risked being temporarily banned. "WhatsApp GB was good since you could download statuses easily. You could also view statuses secretly and change font without worries. I also had the option to hide last seen, but, I was locked out and asked to use the official app," she told TUKO.co.ke. How did netizens react? TUKO.co.ke sampled some comments shared on X. Shawqueile admitted missing GB: "Dear #WhatsappGB. WhatsApp isn't the same again." What is GB WhatsApp? Unlike the original version, sourced from the Google Play Store and App Store for iOS users, GB and the like are downloaded from APK links on web backstreets. A Kenyan lady claimed WhatsApp GB users were liars and manipulative. The original app is owned by Meta Platforms, an American multinational technology conglomerate based in California.
