Wawira Njiru: Founder of Kenya's Food4Education Gets KSh 47.7m Prize

 

Wawira Njiru, the executive director and founder of Food4Education Foundation, has been named among the ten winners of the prestigious Elevate Prize. Wawira Njiru is the founder of Food4Education Foundation, which is dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger. The winners were announced on February 6, and Njiru beat over 1,000 applicants from 92 countries. Expressing her gratitude on X, the 33-year-old Wawira Njiru emphasised the foundation's commitment to eradicating classroom hunger. "Excited and grateful to be named one of this year’s @ElevatePrize winners alongside other incredible leaders doing amazing work in the world. Our commitment at @Food4Education to end classroom hunger is why we keep #FeedingTheFuture. No child should have to learn while hungry," she said on X. Prizes awarded to winners In addition to receiving financial support, the Elevate Prize winners will benefit from tailored services such as communications and content strategy, branding, social media training, and leadership development aimed at amplifying their stories and expanding their impact globally. "The prize: $300,000 (KSh 47.7 million) funding, expert tools, and support to take their world-changing work to the next level — and inspire others to take action," notes the Elevate Foundation. What is Food4Education? The foundation is working to eradicate childhood hunger in Africa by providing subsidised nutritious meals to primary school children to improve nutrition education outcomes. "We have served over 31 million hot, affordable, nutritious school meals to some of the poorest children in Kenya since our inception. We work in partnership with parents, philanthropy, and government as co-financiers to create scalability and sustainability of our program," states the foundation on its website.
