Siaya: Dreaded Gang Leader Wanted for Gruesome Murder of Police Officer Arrested

 

Police in Nairobi have arrested the most wanted criminal behind the brutal murder of a police officer who was escorting examination papers in Siaya county. Police vehicle at a past scene of the crime.  How Abu Naiyah was arrested In a statement on Wednesday, January 31, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) celebrated the arrest of Edward Wanya Mukanga, alias Abu Naiyah.  DCI said Mukanga, aged 34, was arrested in Nairobi's Dandora slum on Friday, January 26, following a tip from members of the public. "Police in Nairobi have arrested a wanted criminal gang leader who was on the run following a tip from members of the public. Edward Wanyama Mukanga aka Ramadhan Mukanga alias Abu Naiyah, 34 was the leader of the grand and a mastermind of the Siaya attack, where a police officer was killed and another one injured and robbed off their rifles as they escorted examination papers to Mahero Secondary School in Alego Usonga Sub-ounty in Siaya county on November 20, 2023," DCI said. Earlier, the police had published his name and photos, as well as those of his four associates, in the media and appealed to members of the public to share any information on their whereabouts.  "The National Police Service appreciates the swift action by members of the public that has so far led to the arrest of Hasting Omondi who was apprehended in Usenge Village within the Bondo area of Siaya County in December 2023," DCI added. How two suspects in Siaya were killed In related news, two of the suspects linked to the murder of a police officer who was escorting exams to Mahero Secondary School in Siaya county were fatally shot. They were nabbed at Hawinga, Alego-Usonga, at the border of Kenya and Uganda, two days after the attack. According to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, an AK47 rifle and an MP5 with 60 stolen bullets were recovered, as reported by Ramogi TV.
