Robert Alai: ODM Supporters Will Easily Choose Ruto over Kalonzo If Raila Isn't on Ballot

 

Raila Odinga's aspiration to succeed Moussa Faki as the chairman of the African Union Commission has generated mixed reactions among ODM politicians in the Azimio coalition. Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly, Robert Alai, perceives Raila's potential resignation from Kenya's political scene as a catalyst for party division.  Alai says Kenyans will back Ruto Alai suggests that a significant portion of ODM members might shift their allegiance to the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, throwing their support behind President William Ruto in the upcoming election. In addition, Alai contends that if the veteran opposition leader opts out of the 2027 polls, a considerable number of his supporters may choose not to vote for his endorsed candidate in the presidential race. "Let me tell you with a lot of certainty. If Baba is not in the race in 2027 and given between Kalonzo and Ruto, ODM supporters would easily go for Ruto. ODM supporters would trust Ruto over Kalonzo any day," he said. ODM issues fresh demands for Kalonzo A section of ODM supporters issued fresh demands that Kalonzo must meet to qualify as Azimio's flagbearer in the 2027 polls. One of their demands stated that the Wiper party leader must organise and participate in street demonstrations, something that did not sit well with supporters from the Eastern area where Kalonzo enjoys steadfast support. The leaders argued that several leaders in the faction have displayed their interest in the presidential seat and therefore the former vice president must prove his ability to act without trigger.
