Nairobi Water Announces Supply Interruption: List of Estates to Go Without Water for 2 Days

 

Nairobi residents have been warned to use the available water sparingly ahead of the scheduled supply interruption. Nairobi Water officials taking metre readings. Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) said it will cut water supply in more than 20 estates as it relocates its pipeline.  Why Nairobi Water cuts supply in 20 estates The company noted that part of the pipeline is in conflict with the ongoing site construction at the United Nations Offices in Gigiri. "Dear esteemed customers, kindly take note of the water interruption notice and use the available water sparingly. We apologize for the inconvenience caused," Nairobi Water wrote on the X Platform. The affected pipeline connects the water supply between Gigiri Reservoir to Karura Reservoir-Outering Road. NWSC scheduled the shutdown of the reservoirs on Wednesday, February 14 and Thursday, February 15, 2024. Which Nairobi areas will not receive water? According to the notice, the following estates will go without water for the two days; UN Complex, Ridgeways, Muthaiga North, Balozi, Garden Estate, and Windsor, Mathare North, Garden City, GSU Headquarters, East African Breweries (EABL), Ngumba, Babadogo, estates along Outering Road, Huruma, Umoja 1, Dandora area 1, Donholm, Tassia, Fedha, Nyayo Embakasi, Kwere estate, and parts of Pipeline estate.  Nairobi Water assured residents it will do everything possible to restore the water supply after the stipulated shutdown timeline. Nairobi Water cuts supply for 79 estates In October 2023, the company also cut the supply of water to the Nairobi CBD and 79 other estates. NWSC said the move was aimed at facilitating the repair of a significant leakage on the raw water pipeline between Matara Raw Water Chamber and Ngethu Water Treatment Plant. During the shutdown, areas such as the University of Nairobi Main Campus, Coca-Cola factory, and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were affected.
