List of Most Expensive Second-Hand Cars in Kenya in 2024

Kenyans buying used cars manufactured between 2016 and 2017 were forced to part with an additional KSh 600,000 in four months to January 2024. Data from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) showed a drop in car imports by $162 million (KSh 25.98 billion based on the current exchange rate). This represented a 16.25% decline from $997 million (KSh 159.91 billion) in 2022 to KSh $835 million (KSh 133.93 billion) in 2023. Why Kenya car prices are rising The drop in second-hand car import value is attributed to the declining Kenya shilling, increasing taxation and rising cost of credits. According to Business Daily, prices of the most sought-after cars by Kenyans, like the Honda Fit and Mazda Demio, for the digital taxi business, increased to KSh 1.6 million and KSh 1.4 million, respectively. Below are the most expensive second-hand cars in Kenya: 1. Land Cruiser V8 This is the most sought-after car by high-net-worth Kenyans, like members of parliament and business owners. The price of the Land Cruiser V8 increased from KSh 12 million in September 2023 to KSh 12.5 million in January 2024. 2. Mercedes C-Class Mercedes C-Class second-hand cars topped the list of cars whose prices surged. The car price increased to over KSh 4.4 million, up from KSh 3.8 million in September 2023. 3. Toyota Harrier The Toyota Harrier is most used by middle-class income earners in Kenya. Used Toyota Harrier is currently retailing at an average cost of KSh 4 million, compared to KSh 3.8 million in September 2023. 4. Subaru Outback Subaru Outback lovers were forced to part with KSh 400,000 or more to buy the car in January 2024. The price shot up from KSh 3.3 million in September 2023 to KSh 3.7 million during the same period under review. 5. Subaru Forester Subaru Forester second-hand currently retails at KSh 3.5 million across different car dealerships. The price shot up from under KSh 3 million, reported in September 2023. 6. Toyota Premio Toyota Premio prices increased from KSh 2.5 million in September 2023 to KSh 2.7 million. In January 2023, the car was going for about KSh 2 million. 7. Mazda Demio Mazda Demio is one of the most sought-after cars by Kenyans venturing into the digital taxi business. The car is now going for KSh 1.4 million, up from KSh 1.25 million in the same period under review. 8. Honda Fit Honda Fit is also used in the country's digital taxi-hailing business. Honda Fit prices increased to KSh 1.6 million, up from KSh 1.4 million in September 2023.
