Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o Asks Bidco Oil Refinery to Cut Ties with Israel over Hamas War

Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o has criticised the business deal between one of Kenya's largest companies, Bidco Oil Refineries, and Israel. Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o speaking at a recent event.  Why is Anyang' Nyong'o annoyed by Bidco? In a statement on Monday, February 19, the governor said he was concerned that Bidco had decided to engage in business with Israel despite the ongoing war in Gaza. According to the governor, an Israeli Economic, and Trade Mission was in Kenya to meet Bidco Group chairperson, Vimal Shah, during which they allegedly discussed collaboration with Israeli companies in the FMCG sectors. "I have noted with concern, a decision by one of Kenya's largest companies, Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd, to do business deals with Israel, a country facing global condemnation for its bloody attacks on the Palestinians," Anyang' Nyong'o said. The Kisumu governor called on Vimal to refrain from dealing with Israeli companies as one way of protesting against the war that has left over 25,000 Palestinians dead. "We are calling on our brother Vimal to restrain his company from taking this move in line with the decisions taken by the @UN and the International Court of Justice.  The two-stage approach is the only viable way of solving the conflict between Israel and her neighbours," he added.
