Kelvin Kiptum's body moved to Chepkorio grounds for funeral service

The body of marathoner Kelvin Kiptum has left his Chepsamo home for the Chepkorio showground where a funeral service is set to be conducted.

President William Ruto is among the leaders expected to attend the ceremony.

World Athletics head Sebastian Coe is also expected to join the mourners in the nation's athletics heartland.

The hearse carrying the body of Kiptum is accompanied by a convoy of vehicles of family members, relatives, security and church leaders.

Security has also been enhanced along the way from his home to Chepkorio centre which is about six kilometres.

The body of Kiptum was removed from Eldoret Hospital morgue Thursday and escorted to Iten where the public had an opportunity to view.

It was put to rest overnight at his house in Chepsamo as per tradition.

The public was scheduled to get another opportunity to view the body before the service began.

He is set to be interred at his new home in Naiberi in Uasin Gishu.
