Three men were on Friday, February 23, 2024, arrested while trafficking four pieces of elephant tusks weighing 27 kilogrammes.
According to a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI), the tusks have an estimated street value of Ksh2.7 million.
Authorities noted that the three suspects identified as Joseph Mutuku, 44, Julius Mwanduka Kiema,72, and 44-year-old Alfred Nzioka Mutie were nabbed at Kisiriri in Narok North following a joint operation by DCI’s Serious Crime Unit detectives and the area police.
The trio have since been locked up ahead of arraignment in court.
“The three have been locked up in cells pending arraignment for relevant offences under the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013 (WCMA),” DCI stated.
