2 Dead as NHIF Pickup Collides With Private Saloon Car Along Kisii-Isebania Highway

 

At least two people have died in a tragic road traffic accident along the Kisii-Isebania highway. Preliminary reports indicated that two people succumbed as four others were critically injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. Road accident along Kisii-Isebania Highway The Friday, February 16, accident involved a pickup belonging to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and a private saloon car. Preliminary reports indicate that two people died on the spot, and four others were critically injured.  The collision happened at Koigo junction in Suna East sub-county, Migori county. Migori County Commander of Police Francis Nguli confirmed the incident, saying the accident occurred around 6.40 p.m. He explained that the private saloon car caused the accident after it lost its brakes, leaving the driver with little control over the already speeding car. Three people are hospitalised in a critical condition following the accident involving a private car and a parastatal vehicle. The saloon car's brakes failed when it was at high speed. "The saloon car was on its way from Kisii towards the Isebania side when it lost control and collided head-on with a double cabin pickup truck headed to the opposite direction," the police boss explained. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary as the injured recuperated in various hospitals in Migori county.  Speeding cited as one of the major causes of road traffic accidents Nguli urged road users to observe traffic rules, insinuating the vehicles involved in the accident were being driven at high speed. "Motorists should be extra cautious, especially on unfamiliar roads. I also urge them to observe speed limits and ensure their cars are in good condition before hitting the road," Nguli added. In mid-2023, a truck ferrying rice lost control and ran over other vehicles and pedestrians, leaving behind 11 casualties. It was established that the truck lost its brakes while on the steep stretch of the road to Migori town.
