Quickmart Supermarket will be opening its 60th branch in Narok County this weekend. Quickmart Supermarket increased its branch network to 60 following the launch of the Moran branch. The chain store’s expansion drive landed in Narok County at Basic Moran Mall. This followed growing competition in the retail sector as players continued to increase their national reach. In October 2023, rival Supermarket Naivas opened its 100th branch in Nairobi. Why Quickmart Supermarket has opened new branch The Quickmart Moran branch is expected to serve residents of Narok town and offer them products at affordable prices. According to the Retail Trade Association of Kenya (RETRAK) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wambui Mbarire, the increased expansion drive in the retail sector is accelerated by devolution, which has enhanced trade. Mbarire noted that the sector, currently at 30% of formal retail, expects more expansion from players throughout the year. “Formal retail is only 30% of the retail sector. There is room for more growth. With Private Equity investment, we shall continue to see more expansion into the Counties as Devolution has enabled new centres of growth,” Mbarire explained in an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke. The Quickmart Narok branch will see the chain store increase its country presence to 15. Currently, the supermarket has branches in Nairobi, Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Kericho, Kisii, Trans-Nzoia, Kitui, Machakos, Laikipia, and Narok counties. Quickmart Supermarket chain stood the test of time and expanded as other retailers.
