News

Safaricom announced on Saturday that starting Monday, February 5, 2024, customers will be unable to send money from M-Pesa to unregistered mobile accounts.

The mobile phone operator emphasized that registered customers, however, will retain the ability to send and receive money seamlessly, even across different mobile money providers.

“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-Pesa to unregistered mobile money customers,” reads a statement by Safaricom.

This decision is a strategic move by Safaricom to enhance security measures and regulate transactions within the mobile money landscape.

Safaricom has urged those who are yet registered for mobile money services to take prompt action.

In their plea, they stated, “We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or an M-Pesa agent with their identity document.”

The company insists that it underscores the importance of this registration process in maintaining a secure and accountable mobile money ecosystem.

This development reflects Safaricom’s commitment to providing a safe and efficient financial platform for its users, ensuring a smoother and regulated experience for all.
