KWS Officers Put To Sleep Crocodile That Swallowed 11-Year-Old Boy, Recover Body

Residents of Manyuru village in Ndhiwa sub-county are reeling in shock following the tragic death of an 11-year-old boy in River Kuja. The crocodile swallowed the boy while fetching water. Felix Odongo, a Grade Two pupil, was fetching water with friends when he was attacked by the huge reptile. His mother, Janet Auma, emotionally narrated asking him to eat before going to the river, but he was adamant about finishing his chores before eating. “I wanted him to eat first before going to the river, but he insisted on finishing his household chores before having a meal,” she narrated, as reported by Taifa Leo. Auma said she was alerted by screams from other children who kept calling for help after the crocodile attacked. The grief-stricken mother said she arrived at the riverbed only to see the crocodile swimming away with Felix. “I was filled with indescribable shock when I saw the crocodile submerging into the water with my child,” she recounted in deep sorrow. She ran along the riverbank, trying to scare the animal into releasing her son, but all was in vain as it swam away. How was the crocodile, Felix found The residents had no option but to wait for Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials to arrive and assist in hunting down the crocodile.  Boiling with rage, the residents patrolled the riverbanks, armed with machetes and blunt tools as they hoped to find the animal. It was not until Friday, February 2, that the officials arrived at the scene and killed the crocodile after several unsuccessful attempts. The officials dissected the reptile and found the promising boy’s body in its stomach.
